What Makes An Outdoor Ping Pong Table Special?

By Andy Zain

When buying an outdoor ping pong table, you want to make sure it is the right type before making a final decision on which one you get. If you buy a wood table you may have problems with too much humidity surrounding your table. This could ruin the table if it was meant to be used inside.

Aluminum tables are the standard when it comes to outdoor play. These tables are great because they are very durable. They will resist warping and moisture fairly easily. These are generally designed specifically for outdoor play. If you want a wood table, then you will want to check out wood tables with special coatings for making them playable outdoors. The coating will keep them water proofed to protect them from any level of moisture they may face. If you want to ensure that your table will be safe outdoors, then you will probably want to look into ping pong tables that are synthetic, but designed to withstand the elements outdoors. Whichever type of table you choose, you will have to pay more for tables that utilize better materials.

One important aspect to look into when buying a ping pong table is the bounce that you get with the table. Indoor wooden tables often have a different bounce than is found on outdoor metal tables. If you are a serious ping pong player, this may make a big difference in your choice. If you are just looking for a table that will last for many years in the elements of your backyard, then you will want to look into the most durable tables available without worrying too much about the type of bounce that you will get.

No matter what kind of table you get, a good idea to help protect your table when outdoors is by using a cover. By putting a tarp or a cover over your table, you will protect it from the heat of the sun while also stopping rain from pooling up on the surface. This can be very helpful in keeping your table in its original condition.

If you choose a metal table, then you will have to expect the table to have a slower bounce than a standard indoor table. Also, the spin will generally be less on metal tables.

When purchasing your table, make sure that the whole table is waterproofed. If the legs and surface are waterproofed, you can keep your table outdoors even during extreme weather. This can be very convenient.

If you want to keep the playability of an indoor table when playing outside, then one good option for you would be to just take an indoor ping pong table outdoors when you want to play outside during good weather. The other times that you don't want to play outside you could just have it stored inside or setup for indoors play. This way you get the same bounce and playability of an indoor table while getting the benefits of an outdoor table. The differences between an outdoor and indoor table are not really that great though, so you may just want to get a good outdoor table for the ease of having it always setup for you outside. - 31983

Top Seven Female Tennis Players in Modern Tennis

By Maggie King

While there have been many great tennis players over the course of the last few decades, such as Agassi, Sampras, McEnroe, and others, I believe that women have been just as great.

Women are faster, stronger, and harder working in the world of professional tennis and we've been lucky enough to see some absolutely great players. Here are the 7 best since 1980, in my opinion.

7. Venus Williams. With all of her Wimbledon wins and some other slams, there's no denying how great she's been. When she's at the top of her game, she can beat sister Serena, which says it all right there.

After Venus is Justine Henin-Hardenne. I put her ahead of Venus because she was simply better, and won more slams in a shorter span. While she cut her career short, she's on the way back up now as she's returned to the sport.

Monica Seles was one of my favorite players growing up, and I'm still saddened by the fact that some deranged man decided to put a knife into her during the match. Her career was never the same after this, but she seriously dominated women's tennis before this happened.

It's really hard to put Chris Evert here at four, but that's how competitive this field is. With 18 career slams, she is simply one of the best to ever play.

Serena Williams has one more grand slam win than sister Venus, and she's a year younger. This pegs her at number three on my list, and I believe that she'll win a handful of additional slams through the rest of her career.

You wouldn't believe it, but Martina Navratilova continued to play doubles well into this decade. Not only did she play, but she won tournaments. That's how great she was, and she was even better at her peak.

Steffi Graf is known to many as the best woman to ever play the sport. It's hard to argue against these people considering her amazing 22 career grand slam victories. - 31983

Determining The Ping-Pong Table For You

By Andy Zain

Thinking about a ping-pong table? Well, depending on your wallet, dedication and seriousness, there is much to consider.

If you're a serious player, what you're looking for in a table is different than it would be if you're just playing for fun.

Aside from your approach to playing, other factors exist, too. These include the thickness of the tabletop, the table's sturdiness, and tabletop surface. You'll also want to consider its storability, too.

It is not necessary to spend a lot of money on a ping-pong table. This is especially true when the majority of its use will be by a family with young children. Buying a less expensive table is ideal. While learning how to play, there will be less concern when the table is beat up or misused.

If you or someone else has a stronger desire to play more seriously, then springing for something more expensive is a good idea. But this kind of table should be taken care of more appropriately.

Storability would come into play next. In a place where space is a concern, an easy-folding table should be considered. One person is all that's needed to pack up this table and store in the corner of the room.

If you have more room, then buying a table that can just be left down all the time is a viable alternative, too. However, any table with rollers is not a bad idea, for the sake of convenience.

Table top thickness is the next issue to consider. The serious player will swear that a thickness of 1 inch is necessary. However, many people opine that a thickness of three-quarters of an inch is acceptable.

It is true that the thicker table gives a more consistent bounce. But it is not worth the extra couple of hundred dollars that it costs over the less thick table. Especially considering that a child or inexperienced player isn't going to notice the difference.

Whether or not you buy the thicker or less expensive table, what should always be important is the table's sturdiness. Strong legs should definitely be a consideration. It will be more durable, especially when kids are the main players. This sturdiness will withstand most anything kids will do to it.

Overall, though, what matters most is your happiness with the purchase. To ensure this, make sure you buy a table that has a smooth finish, with no rough spots or edges. Be sure that the ball bounces consistently, too, when dropped from about 12 inches up. It should be 10 inches or so regardless of where on the table it bounces. - 31983
